Semicon Japan to kick off as country moves to revive its chip industry

Tokyo is all in on the sector, but labor shortages and finances are hurdles to tackle

TOKYO -- Japan's chip industry will tout its fledgling revival at the Semicon Japan trade show that kicks off on Wednesday in Tokyo.

More than 250 speakers are lined up for the annual event, including executives from Intel, Applied Materials and Sony, as well as experts and government officials. Organizers expect 70,000 attendees, up from 51,480 last year.
