TAIPEI -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has suspended shipments to at least two chip developers over suspicions they were attempting to circumvent U.S. export controls on Huawei Technologies, sources briefed on the matter said.

The two companies had placed orders to produce chips using TSMC's advanced 7-nanometer process technology, the sources said. The gradual increase in volume of these orders had raised alarm bells at the Taiwanese chipmaker, they added.
