TOKYO -- Japanese chip material makers are bolstering U.S. production in Arizona to supply a new Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. plant, a trend that could be further fueled by potential tariffs under President Donald Trump.
JX Advanced Metals has invested about 18 billion yen ($116 million) in a plant in Mesa, Arizona, which will become fully operational early this year. The facility will nearly double the company's U.S. supply capacity of sputtering targets, a thin metal component in which it holds a 60% share of the global market.
