Toshiba to spend $840m on power semiconductors

Group sharpens focus on device business with 45% boost in investment

The Toshiba group's capacity to make power semiconductors is seen surging about 150% through factory upgrades.

TOKYO -- A Toshiba subsidiary will ramp up capital expenditures in the new fiscal year that starts in April to expand capacity of power semiconductor devices at its main production base amid booming demand.

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage has earmarked 100 billion yen ($839 million) in investments for fiscal 2022, roughly 45% above the fiscal 2021 estimate of 69 billion yen.
