BEIJING -- Zhao Weiguo, chairman of embattled Chinese chipmaker Tsinghua Unigroup, is no longer at the helm of the group's core design subsidiary, UNISOC Shanghai Technologies, UNISOC announced Tuesday.

Zhao will be replaced as UNISOC chairman by Wu Shengwu, Tsinghua Unigroup's global executive vice president. A major personnel shake-up had been in the works, Nikkei Asia reported last month. Wu will keep his role as global executive vice president.
