BRUSSELS -- China's ByteDance -- the owner of TikTok -- and U.S. companies Apple, Meta, Amazon, Alphabet and Microsoft are subject to new European Union legislation designed to ensure Big Tech plays by EU competition rules, the bloc announced Wednesday.
The six tech giants, designated as "gatekeepers" between users and services, will be required to make services interoperable with competing apps and share data.
