TAIPEI -- Donald Trump's willingness to wield tariffs against allies is causing a major headache for suppliers to Apple, Nvidia and others that shifted production away from China to Southeast Asia and Mexico to avoid U.S. levies.

With the U.S. president suddenly imposing and pausing tariffs on Mexico and Canada, executives fear their "friend-shoring" strategy is no longer enough to mitigate geopolitical risks.
