NEW YORK -- Apple reported its September quarter earnings Thursday, beating Wall Street's expectations in revenue and earnings per share while falling short in projected revenue for its flagship iPhone.

The company recorded $90.1 billion in total sales, up 8% from a year earlier, and earnings per share of $1.29.
