PALO ALTO, California -- Apple will handle production of its new iPhone 16e in India as part of the company's efforts to reduce reliance on China, but it faces the risk of higher U.S. tariffs on India if New Delhi continues to take a protectionist trade policy.
Uncertainty over U.S. President Donald Trump's deal diplomacy as well as a shortage of electricity and skilled labor in India mean that Apple's production shift likely will take some time.
