LAS VEGAS -- From puppy-dog eyes to fluffy ears, companies from across Asia are betting that the next big thing in AI will combine a serious cute factor with emotional appeal.

South Korean tech giant Samsung, Chinese home appliance company TCL and countless startups are among the companies showcasing companion robots at the CES 2025 tech show in Las Vegas this week. They are all betting that advances in artificial intelligence and increasing social isolation mean the market for robotic friends is about to boom.
