Fujitsu invests in OpenAI rival Cohere, eyeing Japanese language model

TOKYO -- Japanese technology group Fujitsu said Tuesday that it has invested in Cohere, the North American generative artificial intelligence startup known as a rival to ChatGPT developer OpenAI.

Fujitsu and Cohere plan to develop a Japanese large language model (LLM) tentatively named Takane. The investment amount was not disclosed.
