TOKYO -- Japan plans to begin utilizing artificial intelligence for analyzing its more than 5,000 projects and initiatives, Nikkei has learned, focusing on target settings, outcomes, and budgets of public works and subsidies.

An updated administrative system will be rolled out in fiscal 2028, according to a review from the Cabinet Secretariat's Headquarters for Promotion of Administrative Reform. The ultimate goal is to have AI help design more effective policies and plan more efficient funding allocation.
