BEIJING -- China's BOE Technology Group looks to boost production of organic light-emitting diode panels by more than half within three years with a new factory, challenging rivals like Samsung Electronics as the group seeks to advance beyond its lead in LCDs.

Construction began in late March on the B-16 site an hour's drive northwest of downtown Chengdu, where prefabricated houses and stores are arrayed for the roughly 10,000 workers scrambling to finish the project as quickly as possible.
