BRUSSELS -- The European Parliament on Wednesday voted through draft legislation governing artificial intelligence, bringing the continent a step closer to enacting the world's first legal framework for the sector.

European institutions will now begin negotiations to finalize their positions so that the AI Act can be adopted early next year, with implementation slated for 2026.
