Fujitsu, Hitachi, others to set up firm for new quantum computer

Some 10 companies, research body join project to hone Japan's competitive edge

TOKYO -- Industry and academia in Japan will set up a company in fiscal 2024 to commercialize a next-generation, high-speed quantum computer, Nikkei has learned.

About 10 companies from the industry side, including Fujitsu, Hitachi and NEC, will help back the new company, which aims to create a high-performance computer based on a new method by fiscal 2030. The venture will utilize Japan's technological strengths in hopes of enhancing the country's industrial competitiveness and economic security.
