LONDON -- A Fujitsu executive said on Tuesday that the company had a "moral obligation" to contribute to compensation for hundreds of post office operators in the U.K. who were wrongly prosecuted based on evidence from faulty software it provided.

"There is a moral obligation for the company to contribute," said Paul Patterson, chief executive for Europe at Fujitsu Services. He was facing questions by British lawmakers over the prosecutions of more than 900 post office operators because of false financial accounts generated by the Japanese company's software.
