MOUNTAIN VIEW, U.S. -- Google unveiled its first foldable Pixel phone at its annual developer conference Wednesday as it takes on segment leader Samsung in a shrinking global smartphone market.

The U.S. search engine giant also made a series of announcements on artificial intelligence at the event, including AI-powered updates to search, cloud and maps, as well as a next-generation language model, as it faces growing competition from Microsoft-backed startup OpenAI.
