TAIPEI -- Huawei on Thursday notched a milestone in its effort to cut its reliance on Google's Android operating system, releasing the first smartphone in its flagship Pura series that runs solely on its HarmonyOS Next operating system as well as an AI assistant it says can interact with humanlike "emotions."
Richard Yu, chairman of Huawei's Consumer Business Group, held a livestream to unveil the new Pura X, a wider screen bi-fold smartphone. Not only is this the first Pura series phone to run fully on Harmony, including the core infrastructure, but it is also the first time for Huawei's flagship line to come embedded with Harmony Intelligence, the company's answer to Apple Intelligence.
