TOKYO -- A Japanese government research institute is teaming with Intel to develop a next-generation quantum computer using the U.S. company's advanced chips, Nikkei has learned.

The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) plans to make the computer available to domestic and foreign universities, and also to companies that pay a fee for its use.
