TOKYO -- Unauthorized use of protected texts, images and other material to train artificial intelligence may qualify as a copyright violation, a panel under Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs said Wednesday in a draft report.

The panel compiled the draft document of views on generative AI and copyrighted material. It plans to wrap up discussions by March toward updating related guidelines.
