TOKYO -- Japanese trading house Mitsubishi Corp. plans to build a data center on property where JFE Holding once operated a blast furnace in Kawasaki, Kanagawa prefecture, as it strives to meet the growing demand from power-thirsty generative artificial intelligence and other systems.

The facility will use a large number of servers equipped with high-performance semiconductors. Construction is expected to be completed in fiscal 2030 at a cost of 100 billion yen ($664 million) to 150 billion yen.
