SEOUL -- South Korean authorities fined Kakao Mobility 72.4 billion won ($54.9 million) on Wednesday for alleged violations in its taxi-hailing service.

The Korea Fair Trade Commission announced that the transportation unit of Kakao forced competing companies, such as Uber Taxi and Tada, to sign information-sharing agreements disclosing drivers' license plate numbers and routes, which Kakao could use to boost its dominance in the taxi market. Kakao stopped connecting companies that declined to provide this information to taxi requests from riders, the authorities said.
