KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia's proposed licensing regime for social media and private messaging platforms has come under fire as a group of prominent tech companies warn the new rules could significantly harm the country's digital economy.

In a letter dated Monday to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the Asia Internet Coalition (AIC), which represents global tech giants like Google, Facebook owner Meta and X, expressed concerns about the lack of industry consultation and the potential for regulatory uncertainty.
