TOKYO -- Japanese factory robot maker Fanuc earned a group net profit of 42.1 billion yen ($308 million) in the April-June quarter, up nearly 5% on the year, thanks to strong demand from the electric vehicle industry.

Sales grew 14% to 211.5 billion yen, setting a quarterly record, on demand for labor-saving equipment, especially in the Americas and Europe, the company said Wednesday.
