TAIPEI/SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics, Oppo and other leading smartphone makers plan to ramp up production in 2024, in a sign that the industry is finally pulling out of its yearslong slump.

Sources briefed on the matter said the planned increases range from around 6% to 9%, with bigger rises expected in more premium segments. This would be a marked improvement from 2023: Smartphone shipments are estimated to drop to their lowest point in a decade this year, after falling in 2022 as well, according to data from Counterpoint Research.
