SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics has replaced the head of its semiconductor division as competition in developing artificial intelligence chips heats up.

Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun has been appointed as chief of Samsung's device solutions division, a surprise move that the company announced on Tuesday. The device solutions division is in charge of the company's memory, system and foundry semiconductor businesses.
