SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics has replaced the heads of its memory and foundry semiconductor businesses as the chipmaker struggles to keep up in the global race to develop advanced artificial intelligence chips.

Samsung announced on Wednesday that its memory semiconductor department will be put under the direct leadership of CEO Jun Young-hyun, replacing President Lee Jung-bae. President Han Jin-man will replace President Choi Si-young as chief of the foundry chip business, which produces tailored chips for outside customers.
