TAIPEI -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. said Monday that losses from the 6.4-magnitude earthquake in January would amount to about 5.3 billion New Taiwan dollars ($161.5 million), dragging first-quarter revenue to the lower end of its earlier guidance.

The world's top chipmaker said a certain number of wafers being processed when the quake and aftershocks hit were impacted and had to be scrapped.
