Nintendo plays it safe with Switch 2 in bid to break its post-hit jinx

With a loyal fanbase, sales are expected to remain strong, but U.S. tariffs loom

TOKYO -- The Bic Camera electronics store in the Ikebukuro district of Tokyo was bustling with activity in late May. The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 was drawing near, and staff were busy preparing for the influx of fans expected to flood the store on release day.

Due to constraints on the console's production, both Nintendo and retailers have implemented strict sales limits. At Bic Camera, this meant introducing a lottery system with various requirements, such as having a past purchase history, and having the store's app or credit card.
