PALO ALTO, California -- TikTok filed an emergency motion Monday requesting the court to temporarily halt a law that requires its Chinese parent company ByteDance to fully divest by Jan. 19 or be banned in the U.S..

The company argued that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia should grant an injunction to stop the countdown of the sell-or-ban deadline, which is less than six weeks away, so the Supreme Court can review on the company's claims that the demand by the U.S. government violates the right to free speech and other constitutional rights.
