KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan -- ASE Technology Holding, the world's largest chip packaging and testing provider, says it will expand its operations in the U.S. and Mexico to help meet customer demand for more diversified production.

ASE has finalized its plan to build a second chip testing plant in California, and will officially announce the project -- and the size of the investment -- on July 12, CEO Tien Wu told reporters on the sidelines of the company's annual general assembly. The company has also purchased land in Tonala, Mexico, to build a chip packaging and testing plant, mainly for automotive and power management-related chips.
