TOKYO -- More people around the world are using virtual private networks, or VPNs, as they become more aware of the risk to their data security. Worldwide, an estimated 1.6 billion people make use of VPNs.
The growing popularity of VPNs, which help people avoid network blackouts and censorship, is a reaction to governments' increasing interference with the internet.
