HO CHI MINH CITY -- Vietnam has fined a former Miss World contestant for "negative" livestreams about famous people, in the latest example of mounting internet censorship in the one-party state.
Nguyen Le Nam Em must pay 37.5 million dong ($1,500) for videos discussing "noisy love stories in the past, revealing hidden corners of showbiz," the local government's Ho Chi Minh City Media Center said on Friday, adding that she had also mentioned former Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh. "Nam Em also made a statement mentioning Uncle Ho in a livestream. These contents cause controversy, noise on social networks, and a lot of negative information."
