PALO ALTO, California -- Intel has parted ways with CEO Pat Gelsinger, but does that mean it will also part with its contract chipmaking ambitions?

Gelsinger, an industry veteran, was brought back to Intel in 2021 to make the company an American chip hero again. Three years later, he left it with a bleeding balance sheet, some gigantic yet unfinished production facilities and a foundry business at a crossroads.
