NIIGATA, Japan -- Japanese tech company Glory is piloting a contactless payment system that solves one of the intractable problems brought on by the pandemic -- recognizing customers' faces even while they are wearing masks. 

Niigata Mayor Yaichi Nakahara was one of the first to try out the system at a cafe in the Sea of Japan coast city on Jan. 15, the day the program was rolled out.
