BANGKOK -- Thailand's largest conglomerate Charoen Pokphand Group will seek an equal consolidation in merging its mobile communications entity with Norwegian telco giant Telenor's Thai arm -- a deal that will create the country's biggest mobile operator if it goes through.

On Monday, CP's telco subsidiary True Corp. and Total Access Communication, a Thai entity of Telenor known as DTAC, both filed a statement saying that they have signed a nonbinding memo of understanding to explore an merger of their businesses.
