GUANGZHOU -- Huawei Technologies and Sharp have signed a global cross-licensing agreement covering so-called cellular standard-essential patents, including ones for 5G and 4G communications.

"We are pleased to have reached this global patent cross-licensing agreement with Huawei under fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory conditions," said Mototaka Taneya, Sharp's chief technical officer, in a news release Monday. Japan-headquartered Sharp is controlled by Taiwanese electronics contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry, or Foxconn.
