TOKYO -- Onerous legal requirements on former state monopoly Nippon Telegraph and Telephone, including a requirement to disclose its research results, should be promptly done away with, a Japanese government panel said in a draft report Tuesday.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications convened the panel to review the so-called NTT Law, which has governed the telecommunications group since it was privatized in 1985.
