BANGKOK -- A megamerger of Thailand's second- and third-largest mobile telecommunications operators, True and Total Access Communication (DTAC), was sideswiped last week as a supervisory authority urged the country's telecom regulator to stop the deal for the good of consumers.

The authority's interruption could delay the completion of the deal, currently projected for the third quarter.
