TOKYO -- Japanese tech giant Rakuten Group is not expected to turn a profit at its wireless business in the foreseeable future, despite rolling out an attractive data plan to bolster the loss-making operation.

Rakuten on Thursday reported a consolidated net loss of 139.9 billion yen ($966 million) for the first half ended June. Money has gone out the door groupwide for 12 consecutive quarters.
