BANGKOK -- Advanced Info Service, Thailand's top wireless carrier, is pouring money into high-speed 5G service and broadband deals as a planned merger between its two biggest competitors puts its lead at risk.

The deal between True Corp. and Total Access Communication (DTAC), the No. 2 and No. 3 carriers by subscribers, has caught the interest of AIS customers who are considering jumping ship if the merger leads to better prices.
