U.N. launches subsea cable advisory to reduce network risks

New body includes U.S. and Chinese officials, but won't tackle geopolitics

TAIPEI -- The United Nations has launched its first-ever advisory body on subsea cable networks, amid growing risks to the critical piece of telecommunication infrastructure.

The International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience, announced on Friday, is overseen by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the U.N.'s agency for digital technologies.
