Terry Gou leads Sharp by the nose again

TOKYO -- When Sharp's board of directors decided to accept Hon Hai Precision Industry's takeover proposal in late February, Sharp President Kozo Takahashi knew he would face a shrewd and unpredictable negotiator.

Takahashi had had a bitter experience trying to strike a business deal with Terry Gou, the hard-driving chairman of the Taiwanese contract manufacturer. As Takahashi expected, the negotiations to sell the embattled Japanese electronics maker to Gou proved to be a grueling process with some painful twists and turns.
