Thai businesses set to shut down for royal cremation

Many Thai businesses will close Oct. 26 for the cremation of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, while some will offer flowers for mourners.

BANGKOK -- Thai convenience stores, eateries and other businesses plan to close early or for the whole day of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's cremation Oct. 26, with citizens expected to mourn en masse at sites around the royal palace here or at home with family.

The government is also calling on businesses in the country's entertainment districts, popular tourism spots, to voluntarily curtail operations. Thailand looks set to fall widely still in remembrance of the beloved monarch.
