TOKYO -- The Bangladesh government plans to establish 20 special economic zones nationwide by 2021 to attract foreign tech and other companies to lessen the country's dependence on the sewing industry.

The government has already designated five locations for the zones, including a suburb of the southern port city of Chittagong. The five zones will cover a total area of 40 million square meters.
