Toyota exec from US resigns after drug arrest

Julie Hamp

NAGOYA -- Toyota Motor has accepted the resignation of a managing officer hired from the U.S. in April to diversify the automaker's leadership, following her arrest in June on suspicion of illegally importing narcotics into Japan.

"We continue to take the steps necessary to become a truly global company," the company said in a statement July 1. "We remain firmly committed to putting the right people in the right places, regardless of nationality, gender, age and other factors."
