NAGOYA, Japan -- The first woman to rise through the ranks to become an executive at Toyota Motor says the path was cleared for her by past women employees' accomplishments.

Female employees taking up the torch today have the backing of the Japanese automaker, Managing Officer Chika Kako told reporters Thursday.
