TOKYO -- Toyota Motor is seeing a significant increase in sales of its hybrid gasoline-electric vehicles in Europe, where consumers are turning away from diesel in the wake of Volkswagen's big falsification scandal that came to light a little more than two years ago.

The share of hybrid vehicles among Toyota's total sales in October reached 45%, double the levels before Volkswagen's so-called "diesel dupe."
