TOKYO -- Japan's trade minister on Monday warned of potential supply chain disruptions following the capture of a cargo ship operated by Nippon Yusen, or NYK Line, by Yemen-based, Iran-backed Houthi militants.

The ship was captured in the Red Sea while transporting automobiles. "Various goods, including automobiles, are transported along this route, which connects Europe and Japan via the Suez Canal," Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura said in a news conference.
