TOKYO -- Hitachi Rail has received orders for railway control system renewal projects in Germany and the U.S. worth a total of around 100 billion yen ($657 million), the company announced this week.

The Japanese conglomerate's railway arm announced on Wednesday that it has joined a 6.3 billion euro ($6.6 billion) project to renovate the German state-run Deutsche Bahn's control systems throughout the country, along with competitors such as compatriot Siemens and France's Alstom.
